3 out of 5 stars TV issues!!!   August 22, 2010
Mr. Melvin Spruill Sr (MANVEL, TX, US)
Although the HP Touchsmart 600-1050 is a super compact computer and the touch screen functions and finger action to enlarge point size for text is great for me... I do have an issue with the built in tv tuner... it is hard to get the tuner to recognize the video input (tv/cable/satilite).

Also, with regards to the stated price.. I DEFINATELY got mine for a lower price. I used P&H photo in New York over the internet cost me EXACTLY $1118.00 NO shipping cost and NO sales tax because I live in Texas and there is no store physically located in Texas... consider that if you want to purchase one (sorry Amazon)

5 out of 5 stars Excellent all-in-one computer. Will definitely buy another one.   August 21, 2010

The monitor is superbly sharp. Lot of storage. Runs very well. Cordless keyboard and cordless mouse are such niceties. The keyboard is very easy to type on and battery life is incredibly long, runs for about 18 months. Batteries run out in about 4-5 months for the mouse. Touchscreen is a plus but hardly used.

2 out of 5 stars Wish I had never bought it   July 15, 2010

I have had this for a couple weeks and am sorry I ever bought it. I'm not sure if it is the system or windows 7 OS. I have had more "not responding" messages in 2 weeks than I have had with my Dell Dimension 9100 in 5 years (running windows xp, thank god). The display is great. I have only used the touch screen sparingly so I can't really speak to that.

At this point I would not recommend this product or windows 7 OS (don't know what all the hype about it is, XP is still the best, in my opinion).

4 out of 5 stars Nice Unit for my Kitchen Use   June 11, 2010

Nice idea for a PC with interesting combination of features. It works really well in my kitchen for recipes, access to news, and Cellar Tracker. The special HP touch screen software is weak and incomplete in many cases (example is the recipe software which can't print and the calendar software which will not interface with any industry system[Google, Hotmail, etc]). I do like using the touch screen for other software. I expected the unit to have standard mounting capabilities (aggravating to have to build a special mounting rack).

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding desktop all-in-one   June 3, 2010

I had some reservations about buying this as a replacement for a nice LCD monitor and a good HP desktop that started acting up at the same time. My concern was that the all-in-one might not be a sufficiently mature merger of the laptop and desktop technologies. I'm no longer concerned.

First off, this is a great-looking computer and the display is HUGE, and displayed the photos from our Africa trip with outstanding detail and color. HP has done a super job with the ergonomics of this machine, as well as the very attractive, sleek packaging.
Second - the wireless keyboard and mouse worked flawlessly right out of the box. The wireless LAN took a little tweaking, but at the Belkin wireless-n router. No call to tech support was needed. My home network now has no computers wired in - just a DeskJet printer and a 500GB network disk (using a SimpleNet adapter with a WD 500GB USB drive). Two laptops, a netbook, a network ready Blu-Ray player, and a Logitech SqueezeBox connect wirelessly.

The touch screen takes a little getting used to, and it works better with a fingernail than a fingertip. I suspect that the IE browser could use some tuning to get that running a little smoother.

My physical desktop is a bit cluttered, and this machine will be a big help getting rid of the clutter. Everything is wireless except the TV antenna. I'm in a fringe area for DTV anyhow, so I may tap into the cable or get another cable box.

The Microsoft touch package seems to work as advertised and includes some good tutorials.

I have installed OpenOffice, CutePDF, Family Tree Maker, Google SketchUp, Skype, and some other software with no hitches at all. When the Norton Antivirus subscription runs out, I will install AVG Free, which is adequate for my needs.

Overall, I think this is a great value in an all-in-one.
