It's great! March 9, 2010 Weibin Li (Tucson, AZ USA) It's a great deal!! It plays so many formats movies and songs on my HDMI TV. Thanks!!
Oplay is good, remote could be improved March 9, 2010 Michael Bernstein (TAKOMA PARK, MD, US) The oplay is a nice little media player. Watch out for the remote, it has a little led on top, but does NOT light up when you push buttons. At first I thought it was busted, but it just turns out that the LED is for show, it does not light up. The remote needs to be aimed directly at the oplay for it to respond, it does not have a wide reception angle. Other than that, the oplay has played everything i have asked it to play and with the firmware update does BlueRay iso's, albiet mounting them is slow, but they do play in stunning HD.
skip the blueray and dvd players March 5, 2010 M. Trieu The interface is good and easy to use. I like the fact that DVDs can be stored in a hard drive and play back without much of an effort with no loss of video and audio quality. In the recent firmware update, Online Media is made available. I like this feature, but would like to see it expand the list of internet tv. Some internet tv channels made the unit reboot. The menu and capability of this media player are still being developed. Sit back and enjoy.
Great movie player March 3, 2010 Tod (New Bern, NC) I chose the Asus player over the Western Digital player due to the fact that it can play image files. In other words a DVD movie can be saved as an ISO file and stored on a hard drive, so you can keep the DVD properties and have it as a single file. You can also do a movie only image, and play the movie with the chapters intact. It streams movie files over my network without a stutter. Upscaling looks almost as good as my Blu-Ray player, and I tend to only use my Blu-Ray player to stream Pandora or Netflix now.
FAT32 only?? For HD?? March 3, 2010 A. van Haaff (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This thing is a great way for viewing your digital media on an HDTV. ASUS did an amazing job. But there's one huge problem. It can only identify FAT32 formated hard drives. Which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. A decent length uncompressed 1080p video will be wwweeeelllll larger than 4GB (which is the file size limit on FAT32). Let's say you record your sons fourth birthday party on an HD video camera... With a maximum of 6 minutes, you've already gone past your file size limit. It makes no sense to have a system that plays true HD content so well (and it does play it well, that's for sure) you think someone at ASUS would have the common sense to allow the use of NTFS formated hard drives (which has no file size limit) with this system.
I don't get it. But heck, if you're the type that records your HDTV onto your computer, this is a great way to watch it. Just make sure you compress it under 4GB. But for me, I'm going to wait until something better comes along. And this'll be there when I wanna watch my iTunes music videos on my big screen.
