I've had my Iomega for about 10 months and am quite dissatisfied with its performance in the long run. Although I haven't had difficulties with the case that others have had, I started noticing problems with files stored on it after about 6 months of use. Numerous files, some that I haven't opened since I put them on the drive, have somehow been damaged. I get messages telling me the files have been corrupted or that data is missing. Recently I have not been able to save files to the harddrive.
When it works, the Firewire 800 is very fast, although it runs untouchably hot.
FW port died after 7 mos, overheats June 3, 2010 Sam (California) I used my Ego very intermittently (every 2-4 wks x 7 mos) to back up another drive. My firewire 800 port suddenly died. Getting an RMA for a replacement was easy. I set about zeroing out the drive so I could return it for a replacement (2 hr process), but during the process the drive overheated, disconnected and lost its formatting. Needless to say, that would have been completely unacceptable had the drive been in real use. I'll obviously get a replacement, but 1) this drive cannot be used for long periods and 2) if you want to erase data securely, you'll have to know where your data containing sensitive info is and secure-erase the files individually. I'm not sure I'd buy this brand in the future.

Product is easy to install and use. Feel secure now that my computer info is backed up on a file in the event of a computer breakdown.
Great for travelling April 8, 2010 Timothy John Garcia (Vancouver, BC, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought this for my trip to Australia. The fact that it is powered by the USB/Firewire ports makes it amazing for traveling along with the size. Love that it comes with the cables. Fairly quiet, slim and works well.
