PMR

IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance.

IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise, and vibration.

NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.

Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.

StableTrac™ - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations. (2 TB models only)

Low power spin-up - WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads.

Advanced power technology - Electronic components deliver best-in-class low power consumption for reduced power requirements and increased reliability.

5 out of 5 stars Best energy sipping drive   August 19, 2010
Talal Jasim Alammar (Kuwait)
I just wanted to add my 2 cents.
I have used this drive in more build than I can count.
I think i've used at least 90 or so drives in the last few months maybe two have failed. I really like these drives and if power and cool computing is an issue for your next build, put these at the top of your list.

5 out of 5 stars 2 of 2 Drives Dead on Arrival, Pensacola General Supply Fast & Reliable   August 15, 2010

My Amazon order was shipped from Pensacola General Supply - very, very quickly. The Western Digital drives both died almost immediately after spin-up. Google reveals MOST of these drives are failing and Western Digital is telling folks replacements won't be available until the end of September - though they have many new faulty drives remaining for sale. Likewise, my drive return experience with Western Digital have almost never been positive - and generally in my being shipped "refurbished drives" - rather than the new drives I had purchased.

3 out of 5 stars Nice HDD, but unstable   July 29, 2010

I bought 3 of them. 1 failed. Having 2tb all the tools that you could think about to try and fix the drive are really REALLY slow.

appart from that experience, its very nice to have the 1.81 tb it offers

3 out of 5 stars Hard Drive Failure at 3 mos of service   June 27, 2010
Jeffrey Leach (Clinton Corners, New York)
Purchased two Western Digital 2tb SATA Green internal hard drives in March 2010. One of them just failed after 3 mos of use. Fortunately the two hard drives were in a RAID 1 configuration inside of a Synology DS209 server so no data was lost...yet. In the process of doing an RMA for the defective hard drive. Three months for a hard drive failure for a server that is not moved....ever..... is not a very good track record. Hope this model is not a lemon.

5 out of 5 stars 2TB!   May 17, 2010

Drive works like a charm, I won't need another one for 5 years I'll bet! I didn't have any trouble installing, BIOS found it, Vista liked it too. I don't notice any additional noise from my case, and it's a fairly low noise system. Not much else to say, it's a HDD.
