Great for Tivo, so far... September 10, 2010 C. Gordon (San Diego, CA) Bought this drive to expand my HD Tivo after the external WD drive died. Used the Windows version of the Tivo drive copy tool to move the current working image to this drive.
Seems like it might be a little slower in response to deleting viewed programs, but I have not had any other problems or concerns. Seems to be quiet enough for me. I don't notice any more noise than the standard Tivo drive.
I have had it installed for about a month now and not had a single problem. I have no problem recommending this drive to anyone who wants to upgrade their HD Tivo box.
Failed after 4 years in 24/7 service September 9, 2010 T. Norris (Houston, TX) This is for the WD5000AAKS WD Caviar SE16 5000gb

I ran these drives as a pair in a RAID 1 setup on a D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosure. Worked great until failing recently with no warning (although the NAS was configured to run a daily S.M.A.R.T. test and email me if there was a problem). This afternoon the NAS box sent me a simple message "The Left Hard Drive has Failed".
Again, being in RAID 1 mode I did not lose my data (but am doing another backup in case the remaining drive fails). The drives worked well up until the sudden failure. They were configured to spin down after 30 minutes of no activity so I guess 4 years is a good run. These drives do tend to run hot during use though.
Newer-model, single-platter drives run cooler and should be more reliable than this old 2006 beastie so I ordered a Samsung Spinpoint drive to replace it. Hope I get a longer life from it.
Works great! September 8, 2010 duesergirl Easy install. Works great. Very fast. Using with Ubuntu 10.04(64-bit). I had no problems loading everything onto it, and it runs really well. Also, this drive is super-quiet! This machine is both my everyday computer and is part of my home theater. I can watch movies on it and not even hear the drive. Average read rate showing as 105.1Mb/s in Disk Utility benchmark test.
Died in a month September 7, 2010 zz I have 2 previous generation ones in a raid, which still works after 2 years. But this new one died after only 1 month. I'm disappointed.
Avoid if you have XP September 6, 2010 Brian (Fairmont, WV) I followed the instructions precisely to install on a Windows XP machine. After much frustration, I was finally able to get the drive working. I have used the drive for a few weeks now and notice that sometimes it is not recognized by the computer once the machine is restarted. I would definitely not recommend this drive to any XP users.
